About The Reserve: Thompson Reserve is an off leash dog exercise area that is located off Van Ness Avenue in Maribyrnong. This reserve is for use all year round with no time or day restrictions. The reserve is located near the Pipemakers Park and is accessible by public transport and by car. This reserve is a great place for dogs as the area has many places for dogs to sniff around and there is plenty of room for the dogs to run. The reserve is located near the back of High Point Shopping Center so the area can be quite busy on weekends and around holidays. How to get there: Thompson Reserve is located in Maribyrnong on Melways Map 28 A10 and is accessible by both public transport and by private car. From Flinders Street Station catch the Train towards Water Gardens from platform 5. Once at Water Gardens catch the 82 Tram to Moonee Ponds and get off at stop 54 corner of Gordon and River Streets. Walk 600 meters down Van Ness Avenue to reach Thompson Reserve. Families travelling by car can park in the reserve car park off Van Ness Avenue. This parking area is open from 8am to 5.30pm daily. ![]() Facilities: Parking available in reserve car park off Van Ness Avenue. Please check signage before leaving your car. Dog poo bins are located in the car park - no plastic bags are available so please remember to take your own. Toilets are located to the east of the car park area. Walking paths - one path which leads to the dog off leash section of the reserve - please note that this path is quite steep and can be slippery especially after rain. The reserve is fenced on the Gordon Street side to prevent dogs wandering on to this busy road Closest Tram stop to Thompson Reserve is located on the corner of River and Gordon Streets Extra Information / Off Leash Walk Sheet Download: The parking area for Thompson Reserve is open 8am to 5.30pm daily - the gate is locked at night. The track leading from the car park to Thompson Reserve is quite steep and may be slippery especially after rain. Thompson Reserve is located near Pipemakers Park which is on leash park for dogs only When using an off leash dog park it is important that you still have voice control over your dog and in the event that you need to call him/her back that they listen and obey your commands. When using off leash dog parks remember that not everyone has well trained and socialized dogs. Consider talking to other dog owners in the park before allowing dogs to play together.
