Bayside City Council is one of Victoria's smaller council areas covering approximatly 36 square kilometers.  The area is located 10 kilometers from Melbourne and is primarily a residential area.  Bayside City Council is bounded by the coastline of Port Phillip Bay on one side and the Nepean Hwy on the other side.

Dog Registration Requirements:
 
Bayside City Council requires all dogs over the age of 3 months to be registered.  Once the dog is registered with the council a unique tag is issued to the owner to be placed on the dogs collar.   This tag aids in the prompt return of dogs that may be found wandering.
 
Number of Dogs Permitted Per House hold:
 
Bayside City Council allows a maximum number of 2 dogs per household.  Residents can however apply for an Excess Animal Permit by completing an apllication form available from the council.  The cost of an Excess Animal Permit is  $55  which is refunded  if the permit is denied.   This permit must be renewed annually at a cost of  $20 per year.

Pound Contact Details:
 
Bayside City Council has a "Day Stay" facility for dogs that are collected in this council area.  Dogs stay in this facility at Sandringham until the end of the day and if no contact has been made with the owner and the dog has not been claimed within this time then at the end of the day the dog is transported to the council's animal pound.
 
Impounded dogs are taken to The South Eastern Pound Services which are located at 920 Thompsons Road, Cranbourne.    
 
The opening hours are as follows:
Monday - Friday: 9.00 - 4.00 pm
Weekends and Public Holidays: 9.00 am - 12.00 pm

Animal Release Requirements:
  • $11 per day or part thereof plus a $44 release fee for dogs with no identification.
  • $11 per day or part thereof plus a $22 release fee for registered dogs.
  • All dogs over the age of 3 months must be registered with Council prior to release.
  • Owner identification is required at release.
  • Fines will be imposed for unregistered animals and animals at large.
