The Central Goldfields Shire area, which was originally a mining area, covers an area just over 1500 square kilometers and is located north west of Melbourne between Ballarat and Bendigo.  The local economy of this area is now reliant on agriculture primarily sheep and crop farming.

Dog Registration Requirements:

 

Central Goldfields Shire Council requires all dogs over the age of 3 months to be registered.  Once the dog is registered with the council a unique tag is issued to the owner to be placed on the dogs collar.  This tag aids in the prompt return of dogs that may be found wandering.

 

Number of Dogs Permitted Per House hold:

 

Central Goldfields Shire Council allows a maximum number of 2 dogs per household on non farming land.

Animal Release Requirements:

• All dogs and cats over the age of 3 months must be registered with Council prior to release.
• Owner identification is required at release.
• Fines will be imposed for unregistered animals and animals at large.
