Glenelg Shire Council is one of Victoria's larger council areas covering just over 6200 square kilometers.  The shire area is located along the coast in south west Victoria with Portland as the areas major center.  The area contains a mix of heavy industry such as an aluminium smelting facility as well as nation parks and the Glenelg River.  The local economy of Glenelg shire is primarily based on timber industries and service industries as well as marine activities.

Dog Registration Requirements:
 
Glenelg Shire Council requires all dogs over the age of 3 months to be registered.  Once the dog is registered with the council a unique tag is issued to the owner to be placed on the dogs collar. This tag aids in the prompt return of dogs that may be found wandering.
 
Number of Dogs Permitted Per House hold:
 
Glenelg Shire Council allows a maximum number of 2 dogs per household on non farming land.

Animal Release Requirements:
  • All dogs and cats over the age of 3 months must be registered with Council prior to release.
  • Owner identification is required at release.
  • Fines will be imposed for unregistered animals and animals at large.
