Golden Plains Shire Council covers an area just over 2700 square kilometers and is located south west of Melbourne between Ballarat and Geelong.  The area is mainly rural with several small townships servicing the local areas.  Goldern Plains shire relies on agriculture and some tourism to provide for the local economy.

Dog Registration Requirements:
 
Golden Plains Shire Council requires all dogs over the age of 3 months to be registered.  Once the dog is registered with the council a unique tag is issued to the owner to be placed on the dogs collar. This tag aids in the prompt return of dogs that may be found wandering.
 
Number of Dogs Permitted Per House hold:
 
Golden Plains Shire Council allows a maximum number of 2 dogs per household on non farming land.

Animal Release Requirements:

  • All dogs and cats over the age of 3 months must be registered with Council prior to release.
  • Owner identification is required at release.
  • Fines will be imposed for unregistered animals and animals at large.
