Indigo Shire Council covers an area of just over 2000 square kilometers and is located 280 kilometers nort east of Melbourne.  The council area boarders the Murry River and also the Great Dividing Range.  Tourism is an extremely important activity to the local ecomony as this area has important wine regions such as Rutherglen and also culturally significant areas such as Beechworth and Yachandandah.

Dog Registration Requirements:
 
Indigo Shire Council requires all dogs over the age of 3 months to be registered.  Once the dog is registered with the council a unique tag is issued to the owner to be placed on the dogs collar.  This tag aids in the prompt return of dogs that may be found wandering.

Indigo Shire Council allows a maximum number of 2 dogs per household on non farming land.

Animal Release Requirements:
  • All dogs and cats over the age of 3 months must be registered with Council prior to release.
