Covering an area of just over 1400 square kilometers Latrobe City Council is one of the larger council areas located in the Gippsland region.  The council area is approximatly 140 kilometers east of Melbourne and is an important centre for electricity production in Victoria.  The Latrobe valley contains vast brown coal reserves which it uses to generate over half of the electricity supply for Victoria.  The region is also important for the manufacture of paper based products as well as providing services for the Gippsland area.

Dog Registration Requirements:
 
Latrobe City Council requires all dogs over the age of 3 months to be registered.  Once the dog is registered with the council a unique tag is issued to the owner to be placed on the dogs collar. This tag aids in the prompt return of dogs that may be found wandering.
