Melton Shire Council covers an area just over 520 square kilometers and is locate to the west of Melbourne.  The shire is mainly rural land but there has been dramatic growth in residential areas over the last 5 years in suburbs such as Hillside and Caroline Springs.  The local economy of Melton Shire Council is based priamrily on manufacturing, transport and logistics activities.

Dog Registration Requirements:
 
Melton Shire Council requires all dogs over the age of 3 months to be registered.  Once the dog is registered with the council a unique tag is issued to the owner to be placed on the dogs collar.   This tag aids in the prompt return of dogs that may be found wandering.

Melton Council allows a maximum number of 2 dogs per household on non farming land.

The opening hours are as follows:

Weekends and Public Holidays: 9.00 am - 10.00 am

Animal Release Requirements:
  • $12 per day or part thereof plus a $50 release fee.
  • All dogs and cats over the age of 3 months must be registered with Council prior to release.
  • Owner identification is required at release.
  • Fines will be imposed for unregistered animals and animals at large.
