Strathbogie Shire Council covers an area of just over 3300 square kilometers and is located north of Melbourne in central Victoria.  The shire area is disected by the Hume Hwy and has the Strathbogie ranges located in the east of the council area.  The local economy of Strathbogie shire council is predominatly agriculture with activities such as wool and grain production and also grapes for wine making.

Dog Registration Requirements:
 
Strathbogie Shire Council requires all dogs over the age of 3 months to be registered.  Once the dog is registered with the council a unique tag is issued to the owner to be placed on the dogs collar.  This tag aids in the prompt return of dogs that may be found wandering.

Animal Release Requirements:
  • $12 per day or part thereof plus a $50 release fee.
  • All dogs and cats over the age of 3 months must be registered with Council prior to release.
  • Owner identification is required at release.
  • Fines will be imposed for unregistered animals and animals at large.
