Towong Shire Council covers an area just over 6600 square kilometers and is located in north eastern Victoria on the border.  The shire is mostly rural with large sections that are relatively unpopulated.  The local economy of Towong Shire Council is based mainly on agriculture and forestry.

Dog Registration Requirements:
 
Towong Shire Council requires all dogs over the age of 3 months to be registered.  Once the dog is registered with the council a unique tag is issued to the owner to be placed on the dogs collar. This tag aids in the prompt return of dogs that may be found wandering.

Towong Shire Council allows a maximum number of 2 dogs per household on non farming land.

Animal Release Requirements:
  • All dogs and cats over the age of 3 months must be registered with Council prior to release.
  • Owner identification is required at release.
