Wellington Shire Council covers an area of just over 10900 square kilometers and is located in Victoria's east.  The area's main economic activity is agriculture but the shire is also home to the Longford gas plant, Ninelty Mile Beach as well as a large prison located at Wellington.

Dog Registration Requirements:
 
Wellington Shire Council requires all dogs over the age of 3 months to be registered.  Once the dog is registered with the council a unique tag is issued to the owner to be placed on the dogs collar. This tag aids in the prompt return of dogs that may be found wandering.
 
Number of Dogs Permitted Per House hold:
 
Wellington Shire Council allows a maximum number of 2 dogs per household on non farming land.
